Joto Vent

The Joto Vent System

Distributed by Interra USA, Inc. (Exclusive distributor for the North American market.)

The Joto Vent System is a new system for the US market, however it has been used successfully in Japan for the past 40 years and it is their standard for crawl space ventilation.

We were certified by the IAPMO in January, 2015. The IAPMO link to our ER report.

The Joto-Vent system is a unique method for crawl space ventilation that is new Japanese traditional construction method. This system was invented to protect by Japanese climate and earthquake. JOTO Techno has worked on inventing and expanding this system since 1974.

As of 2011, the Joto-Vent system was used on more than 2.5 million buildings in Japan. Today, 80% of new residential houses in Japan use the Joto-Vent system, and they hold a 60% market share in Japanese market.

The Joto Vent System

We have spent a lot of time and effort to make sure the Joto Vent System meets and exceeds all the IBC and IRC requirements for crawl space ventilation and moisture control. The Joto Vent System is comprised of three parts,

  1. The Joto Vent
It is installed on top of the concrete foundation and under the sill plate.
  2. The Ventilation Flashing
It is the architectural designed flashing to cover the vent and the VIP to give the system a clean and finished look.
  3. The VIP (Ventilation and Insect Prevention) Flashing
The VIP, the Ventilation and Insect Prevention screen installed over the vent

The Joto Vent sits on top of the concrete foundation and under the sill plate, thus the sill plate is NOT in direct contact with the concrete thus per IBC code, the sill plate does NOT have to be treated lumber. This is a great cost savings and allows you the builders to apply for more Built Green points.

The Joto Vent System is also a BUILT GREEN vendor for moisture control and air flow efficiency. Which, when used in conjunction with other environmental and healthy house building practices assures the builder of BUILT GREEN points on every project.

Installation Option #1

This is one of the options using all three parts of the system. Some jurisdiction requires 1/8” for the bug screen. Then, we will need to use the “VIP” to exceed the requirement. This is the standard using two parts of the Joto Vent system. If you are require ¼” for the bug screen, and then you can skip to use the “VIP.” Then the system would be 2 parts system.

Installation Option #2

This is the standard using two parts of the Joto Vent system. If you are require ¼” for the bug screen, then you can skip to use the “VIP”. Then the system would be 2 parts system.

Enables Ventilation

By installing the Vent on the circumference of the concrete foundation, you get a positive/negative air flow that allows moist, damp and stale air in the crawl space to be exchanged with fresh air from outside. This leads to a healthier more comfortable environment.

Preserves Structural Integrity

By using the Joto vent system, you no longer need to cut holes in your rim joist or form vent boxes in your concrete foundation. So, you can maintain the structural strength of the foundation and rim joist.
